Gopilal Acharya is an award-winning writer-journalist and a trained teacher. He worked as Chief Editor of Bhutan’s first English language private newspaper, Bhutan Times, and later founded a weekly newspaper, The Journalist. He has written for CNN, The Straits Times in Singapore, South Asian Monitor in Malaysia, The Telegraph, The Third Pole, and Scroll.in in India, and Druk Journal, Kuensel, Bhutan Times, and The Journalist in Bhutan. He writes mostly on politics and environment.
He is the author of Bhutanese Folktales (From the South and the East), Dancing to Death (Poems), and Byline (Selected Writings, 2001-2019). The manuscript of his debut novel With a Stone in My Heart was longlisted for the 2009 Man Asian Literary Prize. Gopilal Acharya’s poetry and fiction have appeared in Asia Literary Review and Himal Southasian.
Gopilal Acharya has a Master of Global Journalism from Örebro University in Sweden, a Post Graduate Certificate in Education from Samtse College of Education, and a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) from Sherubtse College.
