Lily Wangchuk has 30 years of extensive experience in varied fields as a Writer, Consultant, Former Politician, Former Diplomat, Former Assistant Resident Representative, UNDP; Former Executive Director for Bhutan Media Foundation
She began her career as a diplomat with Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 1994 where she served 12 years. She served as Assistant Resident Representative for UNDP Bhutan, Executive Director for Bhutan Media Foundation. She was the first woman in Bhutan to lead a political party as President of Druk Chirwang Tshogpa (Bhutan Social Democratic Party). She had also been a consultant for both national and international organizations for socio-economic studies.
She has Masters Degree in Public Policy with specialization in Diplomacy & International Policy Studies from Australian National University, Canberra, Australia; Postgraduate Diploma in Human Rights, International Law & Refugee Law, Indian Academy of International Law & Diplomacy, New Delhi, India and Bachelors Honours Degree in Political Science, Miranda College, Delhi University, Delhi, India.
She is the Winner of the Lions Club Award, India (Outstanding Diplomat 2003); Winner of ANU PG Prize from ANU, Australia 2000; and recipient of many academic and professional achievements. She was recognized as the Top Global Woman for 2013 by Diplomatic Courier (Global Affairs Media Network), USA.
She is the author of Bhutan’s best selling book, Facts about Bhutan and has represented Bhutan at many international forums and today continues to contribute her writings to many national and international journal and publications.
