Sangay Loday is a 21-year-old queer individual who goes by They/Them/Their/It pronouns. They currently serve as a Queer Youth Consultant with Queer Voices of Bhutan, where they passionately contribute to advocating for the LGBTIQA+ community. Sangay focuses on content creation, consultation, and political advocacy. They have curated content that emphasizes SOGIESC, LGBTIQA+ issues, and SRHR. Through their content, Sangay has facilitated and moderated dialogues, workshops, trainings, and consultations with CSOs, CBOs, NGOs, and UN bodies, advocating and mobilizing their content. Apart from their work with the LGBTIQA+ community, Sangay’s journey continues with internships in entities that dwell in diverse areas such as Humans of Thimphu, which enters people’s stories, South East Asian Global Affairs Network (SEAGAN), which curates content on skill development, and Storius, which narrates stories of locations, breathing life into them through podcast-type content. Sangay also holds positions as an ambassador for the Movers Programme and Doha Debates.
Beyond their professional endeavors, they delve into the world of performing arts, balancing their life as an advocate with the thrill of stepping into plays, dramas, and musicals. Their journey has encompassed significant roles in plays like “Merchant of Venice” and “Wangchuk Dynasty” (History of Bhutan). They took a leap into deepening their understanding of theatrics by participating in a comprehensive three-month course called “Black Box Theatre.” Their recent highlight includes portraying “Putzie” in the musical “Grease,” adding to the tapestry of their artistic explorations. Along with performing a monologue at Bhutan Echoes that was described as “Powerful and Startling” (The WIRE). Sangay is a passionate and enthusiastic queer youth advocate who strives to bring creativity into all aspects of the work they create or perform.
